On February 4, Whistleblower Law Collaborative co-founder Bob Thomas joined an esteemed panel of practitioners to discuss current developments in the prosecution of health care fraud cases at this year’s Boston Bar White Collar Crime Conference. The event was sponsored by the Boston Bar Association and was available by ZOOM. The conference website and agenda can be found here.
The Health Care Fraud panel was a half-day event, which included later panels on financial crimes and pandemic-related crimes. Josh Levy of Ropes & Gray and Emily Hodge of the Choate law firm moderated. Joining Bob in fielding their questions was Laura Angelini of Hinckley Allen, Gillian Feiner of the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office, and Abe George and Amanda Strahan of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Massachusetts.
The panel covered the current enforcement priorities of the state and federal prosecutors’ offices, as well as the more detailed practice questions of when “admissions” are required of settling defendants, and what is expected with respect to privilege logs during an investigation. Time was reserved for questions from the online audience.
It was an informative discussion.
